Mechanical Ventilation & Heat Recovery (MVHR) units are crucial components in modern, energy-efficient buildings, providing a sustainable solution for ventilation, heat recovery, and improved indoor air quality. Our expert MVHR team are specialists in the installation and maintenance of wall mounted, ceiling mounted and attic mounted mechanical ventilation and heat recovery systems for households and businesses throughout the East Sussex and Kent areas. Contact us today to learn more about our MVHR products and services.
Here’s how an MVHR unit works: Stale, warm air is extracted from all wet rooms and passed through a heat exchanger (transferring its heat to the incoming fresh air). Fresh, filtered air from outside is drawn into the unit, warmed by the heat exchanger, and then distributed to living spaces such as bedrooms and living rooms.
mechanical ventilation & heat recovery benefits
Energy Efficiency: By recovering and reusing heat from the outgoing air, MVHR units reduce the need for additional heating, lowering energy bills.
Improved Air Quality: Continuous ventilation ensures a supply of fresh air and the removal of pollutants, moisture, and odors.
Thermal Comfort: Maintains a consistent indoor temperature by pre-warming incoming air in winter and cooling it in summer.
Reduced Condensation and Mould: Effective moisture control helps prevent condensation and mould growth, enhancing building durability and occupant health.
MVHR FOR NEW BUILDS
AND RETROFITS
If you’re a self-builder or an architect, James Robert Construction are here to assist with your homes ventilation needs, especially if you are working to attain a EnerPHit standard.
New build home ventilation systems are becoming increasingly popular as more people are looking for ways to make the air in their living environments cleaner and generate warmth in the most efficient way possible.
Whether you’re a self-builder, architect or building consultant, we are happy to assist with your MVHR project so that you get the home ventilation system that is right for you.
A renovation or refurbishment is an ideal time to add MVHR to your project scope as this will not only provide you with long-term energy efficiency but a nicer living environment.
MVHR retrofitting projects can be complex. We can ensure your system is fully optimised and that you have enough space for key component requirements. The correct design and installation of your system not only gives you the output you need, but also best suits the aesthetic of your home / interior.
PASSIVHAUS & ENERPHIT
MVHR INSTALLS
Looking to improve the air quality in your home? MVHR systems are essential for maintaining the stringent energy performance and comfort levels required by Passivhaus.
Passivhaus is a quality assured standard and methodology for low energy building, which can help create buildings which use around 75% less energy than standard practice for UK newbuild.
Passivhaus design seeks to reduce heating loss to a minimum as this is seen as the most cost-effective and most robust way of achieving a low carbon building.
EnerPHit is a certification standard developed by the Passive House Institute specifically for the energy retrofit of existing buildings. The EnerPHit standard aims to significantly improve the energy efficiency of older buildings, bringing them as close as possible to the energy performance of new Passive House buildings.
This standard provides a practical approach to achieving high levels of energy efficiency in buildings that may not be able to meet the full Passive House criteria due to constraints inherent in retrofitting.
SERVICING, MAINTENANCE
& MVHR UPGRADES
Professional MVHR servicing and maintenance contracts ensure your system functions as efficiently as possible, whilst maintaining a healthy and comfortable indoor environment.
Energy Efficiency: Maintains the system’s efficiency, ensuring low energy consumption and cost savings.
Optimal Performance: Keeps the MVHR system running smoothly, providing consistent ventilation and heat recovery.
Longevity: Extends the lifespan of the system by preventing wear and tear and addressing issues before they become serious.
Health and Comfort: Ensures high indoor air quality by preventing the build-up of dust, allergens, and pollutants in the system.
Professional Servicing: Involves hiring a certified technician to perform thorough inspections, cleaning, and repairs. This is recommended for comprehensive maintenance and addressing technical issues.
DIY Maintenance: Homeowners can perform basic tasks like filter replacement and vent cleaning. However, more complex tasks should be left to professionals to avoid damaging the system or voiding warranties.
